Sidings

Wishford was initally built with a siding on the main platform side. This siding was in three parts:

A small siding for milk traffic

A longer siding between the station and the road for coal and other mineral traffic.

A siding running parallel to the running line and through a goods shed.

In 1909 a further siding was put in on the opposite side of the running tracks with a cattle pen and platform area for loading horses into horse boxes.

Station Buildings

The main Station building was designed by R. P. Brereton (on behalf of I K Brunel) to be built of Bath Stone and of a similar design of numerous other GWR wayside stations, many of the preserved stations on the West Somerset Railway were designed by R P Brereton and although not exactly the same as Wishford they do contain many of the same prominent design features both internally and externally.

The later built up platform had a waiting shelter of a different design but still built of the same stone.

Goods Shed

The goods shed contained one through road for rail traffic with a split platform inside, the centre of the platform had a small crane for offloading from trucks to the platform or road vehicles. Road vehicles could enter via a northern arched entrance or the eastern canopied entrance. To the eastern side was an office area built under an extension to the main roof. This goods shed was built prior to the 1855 opening of the station and was not demolished until early 1984.

Signal Box

During the early years up to doubling of the line the signal box was on the opposite side of the running track to the station building and slightly to the south. After doubling of the line a new box was erected at the end of the platform to the south of the station building, this was built in 1901 to a generic 1885 design.

Closure of the Station

The station was closed formally on 19 September 1955, as this was a Monday the last train stopping at the station was 17 September.

Current use of the site

Part of the original garden of the Station Masters House now is occupied by the bungallow Green Haven. The bungallow Ofre Saet has been built immediately in front of where the station building stood. The Bungallow The Sidings is built on the main siding area immediately behind where the signal box stood. The bungallow Weathertop has been built immediately to the North of the site of the Goods Shed.
